From the Streets of Australia to the Heart of Nepal: Remembering the 2015 Earthquake Relief

In April 2015, the world watched in heartbreak as a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. For many of us in Australia, the distance felt unbearable as we saw the devastation of historic landmarks and the displacement of thousands of families. We knew we couldn't just stand by—we had to act.
Turning Empathy into Action
In response to the crisis, our community launched a grassroots fundraising initiative to support the Help Nepal Network (HeNN). We chose HeNN because of their "Practical Philanthropy" approach, ensuring that every dollar raised would go directly toward reconstruction and essential supplies on the ground.
Our campaign took a two-pronged approach to maximize our reach:
Street Fundraising: We took to the busy streets of Australia with donation tins and heavy hearts. The response from the Australian public was overwhelming. From office workers on their lunch breaks to students chipping in their spare change, the sense of global solidarity was palpable.
Online Advocacy: Recognizing the power of the digital landscape, we launched a parallel online campaign. This allowed us to reach friends, family, and strangers across the globe, providing a platform for those who couldn't meet us in person but still wanted to contribute to the recovery efforts.
The Impact of Every Cent
The funds raised were channeled into critical areas, including:
Emergency Shelter: Providing tents and materials for those who lost their homes.
Medical Supplies: Supporting mobile clinics in remote districts.
School Reconstruction: Helping children return to a sense of normalcy by rebuilding safe learning environments.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Looking back, it wasn't just about the money raised; it was about the spirit of Ubuntu—the idea that "I am because we are." Whether you dropped a coin in our bucket on a street corner or shared our link on social media, you became a part of Nepal's journey toward resilience.
To everyone who stood with us during those difficult months: Dhanyabad (Thank you). You proved that when the world shakes, humanity stands firm.
